Breaking News: President Lurch Makes Major Announcements in Latest Press Conference

GM Young Cup results: This past Saturday, Jimmy's Giants elite team consisting of James "Slapper" Gill, Riccardo "Bunga Bunga" Capelvenere, Stuart "Shrek" Murray and Tony "Broadband" Melloy faced off against those dastardly HH opponents captained by the ever-so-cunning Chris Ip.

The morning singles session resulted in 2 wins and 2 losses, but the Giants 5 down on total holes. Nonetheless, the Giants soldiered into the afternoon 4-ball team competition with characteristic determination and grit.

First out was the dynamic duo of Slapper and Michael "Chambermaid" Hobson. Playing superb golf, they won their match thus securing 2 points and clawing back the 5-hole deficit from the morning. To give you an idea of what “superb” means, Slapper had 6 birdies and an eagle in the morning over the Old.  And they were only up by 2. In the afternoon, Slapper took his foot off the gas and could manage only a paltry 7 birdies on the New for another 2-up win.

Next up was Mark "Muffin" MacDonald and Dale "Hoser" Willetts. With backs to the wall, they fought doggedly and - after being down most of the back 9 - pulled even on the 16th on the strength of Hoser's (net) birdie. No blood on the 17th so the match went down to the 18th and final hole. What drama! Muffin and Hoser both made scrambling pars under great pressure to bring the outcome down to Gordon Yam who was long in the back bunker. After a so-so bunker shot, Gordon sunk a very difficult 15' putt from just off the green to give HH the narrowest of victories over the scrappy Jimmy’s Giants team.

It was an outstanding effort by the Giants, we salute each of you A special thanks to Hoser whose inspired captaincy brought them so close to victory. So, it's on to next year with the hope of capturing that elusive trophy.

GOTY #7 this Saturday: As of this writing, with less than a week to go, we have 17 confirmations so we could use a couple more players. If you know of any 'fence sitters' give them a poke. The final pairings will be posted on the JKGS website on Thursday 18th January.

Important note on Elfing: Thanks to our intrepid and selfless elves this week. Shrek, Jim "Swivel" Robinson, Martin "Stiffy" Hadaway, Peter "Road Rash" Au-Yang, Ian "Dumbo" Petersen, and Prez "Lurch" for making the effort on behalf of all Jimmys.

On that note, I will mention that 26 of the 44 active Jimmys have not elved, or volunteered to elf, even once this year. I implore you 26 Jimmys to step forward and do your fair share of the elfing.

Reminder Lucifer Plate is drawing near: Please mark your calendars and block off April 28 to May 1 for the Lucifer Plate JKGS tour to Bangkok.  We’ll be playing three great courses (two reciprocals), and a good time will be had by all.

As one of the event organizers, it would be very helpful to get an indication of how many Jimmys will participate.  You can easily help me out here by RSVPing here and letting me know one way or the other.

Staying for dice (vs. leaving early): It is completely understandable that from time to time, you might not be able to stay for dice. Dice is a major component of the great Jimmys experience, but occasionally life gets in the way. It happens to all of us from time to time.

But if a Jimmys must leave after playing golf, but before the dicing begins, then those who do stay have to assume the additional risk of losing and paying their share of the drinks bill. That is not fair to those who participate in the entire Jimmys experience.

Therefore, beginning with GOTY #7 this coming Saturday 20th January, if you must leave before the dicing starts, you will be required to make a modest $100 contribution to help defray the cost of the drinks. The best outcome is, of course, is that you stay, play dice, and enjoy a full-on Jimmys experience; and I hope that is what you will do. We would far rather have your good company than your $100.
